The Sebring girls basketball team built a brief third-quarter lead before eventually succumbing to Bartow, 58-53, on Thursday night in the final round of the Preseason Classic in the Blue Streaks gym.
The Blue Streaks were again paced by forward Madison Rose, who scored a game-high 15 points.
After missing two potential game-winning shots in the final 10 seconds of Tuesday's loss to Okeechobee, Sebring came out strong to tie Bartow at the half, 26-26.
Bartow, which throttled LaBelle in the opening round on Tuesday, had four players in double figures as it overcame a five-point deficit in the third quarter to retake control of the game.
Sebring opens the regular season at Lake Wales on Tuesday night.
Terrones leads Green Dragons to win
LAKELAND - Senior Yuribia Terrones, playing just her second game of the season, scored all four of Lake Placid's goals in a 4-1 victory over Tenoroc on Thursday night.
"Incredible again," Green Dragons girls coach John Merlo said. "She's our scoring machine, and she's picking up right where she left off last year."
Terrones, who scored 29 goals last season, already has six goals in two games this year after finishing up volleyball. She netted one goal in the first half Thursday, then poured in three more to put away Tenoroc.
With the win, Lake Placid improved to 2-2 overall, 2-1 in Class 3A-District 9.
"We're real young but I'm really happy with the progress we've made," Merlo said. "We've only had two actual practices, and in time, after we get going, we'll be alright. Thursday night was a big step in doing that, but we left a lot of goals out there."
The Green Dragons travel to play LaBelle on Monday night before returning home to host Fort Meade on Tuesday.
Sebring girls soccer falls to Hornets
The Sebring girls soccer team scored first Thursday, but a few defensive lapses led to a 3-1 loss to Haines City.
About 10 minutes into the match, McKenzie Hargaden scored the first goal of the game on a nice assist from Amanda Hebert, giving the Blue Streaks an early 1-0 lead. But Haines City notched a goal 3 minutes before halftime, and then tacked on two more in the second half to secure the district victory.
The loss dropped Sebring to 0-4-1 this season.
"We played pretty even throughout," Sebring coach Steve Ashley said. "Most of it was just little lapses on defense and they took advantage of it."
Playing without their keeper, Misha Hahn, who will miss a week with a bruised rib, the Blue Streaks got significant contributions from freshman Heather Bloesma, Hargaden and Hebert.
The Blue Streaks will play again next Friday, when they host Winter Haven.
