The South Florida Community College softball team played solid ball against Santa Fe in Saturday's doubleheader.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, as Santa Fe, which is one of the top-ranked teams in the state, swept both games from the Panthers by scores of 6-0, 7-0.
"We played pretty well, but Santa Fe is just a real good team," said South Florida coach Carlos Falla. "We pitched well and swung the bats, but we couldn't get the big hit when we needed it and when we did hit it, Santa Fe's outfielders made some unbelievable catches to keep us from scoring.
"We played much better than we have been and we only made two mistakes on the mound, but Santa Fe made us pay with a couple of home runs."
Santa Fe capitalized on any mistake by SFCC, which is what makes the Saints one of the best teams in the state junior college ranks.
"Their one of the top teams in the state because they do all the little things right," said Falla. "It was a good experience playing them and it gives us an idea of what we need to work on to become a better team.
"Executing properly and taking advantage of mistakes is what separates us from a team like Santa Fe."
South Florida is back on the diamond today when it hosts St. Petersburg College in a double header beginning at 5 p.m. at Panther Field.
