After playing solid baseball in taking two out of three games from conference opponent Polk Community College, the South Florida Community College team made numerous mental and physical mistakes in losing to Manatee CC by a score of 9-2 on Saturday.
"We made two or three poor decisions with the ball on defense and we left 13 men on base," said Panther coach Rick Hitt. "After playing real well against Polk, we took two steps back in this loss to Manatee.
"We had men on base and didn't take advantage of several good scoring opportunities and really didn't do anything well."
The Suncoast Conference loss to Manatee, which leads the conference, dropped South Florida to 23-13 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
SFCC is back on the diamond today when it hosts Manatee at 6 p.m. at Panther Field.
"It was a frustrating day, but we have to put that game behind us," said Hitt. "We need to regroup and come out mentally and physically ready to play on Monday.
"This is a very tough conference and we need to win as many of our home games as possible and take advantage of playing at home."
South Florida is at Manatee on Wednesday night and the Panthers entertain Suncoast Conference rival Hillsborough Community College on Friday at 6 p.m.
