Sophomore catcher Jerry Neufang clubbed his team-leading 13th homer and freshman right-hander Adam Simmons tossed a complete game to lead South Florida Community College to an 11-3 win over Polk Community College in a Suncoast Conference game on Wednesday.
The win improved the Panthers to 22-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
"This was a good win for us," said South Florida coach Rick Hitt. "Adam threw the ball very well and Jerry continues to swing the bat well."
Sophomore Austin Gaines continued his torrid hitting by going 4-for-5 with two RBI, while Neufang went 2-for-4.
South Florida travels to Lakeland on Friday for a game against Polk and the Panthers play at conference rival Manatee on Saturday.
"We are a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde bunch right now," Hitt said. "We hope to play better more often than not down the stretch."
Former Sebring standout Tony Vazquez, who plays for Polk, said it was a bit strange batting against Simmons, his former Blue Streak teammate.
"It was really weird facing Adam," said Vazquez. "Seeing him and Chaz Abeln, Justin Tomlinson and all the other guys from around here is always good.
"I'm very happy at Polk and I'm enjoying my freshman year."
