BASEBALL: Lake Placid 4, Frostproof 2

LAKE PLACID - Colby Delaney had a three-run double and Perry Mason tossed a complete-game three-hitter to lead Lake Placid to a 4-2 win over Frostproof in a Class 3A-District 10 baseball game on Tuesday night.

"We got just enough offense and a solid effort from Perry," said Green Dragon coach Dan Coomes. "Our defense was much better and it's a good district win for us.

"We hit the ball hard and left some men on base, but we made some good things happen.

The win improved Lake Placid to 2-4 in district play and the Green Dragons are at Clewiston tonight and travel to Sarasota on Saturday for a game against Booker.

"We're playing better and we just need to keep swinging the bats," said Coomes. "We're cutting down on our mistakes and that's what we need to do to be successful."

SOFTBALL: Avon Park 10, Hardee 0

AVON PARK - Amber Tindell threw a one-hit shutout and Janise Perry had three hits and scored three runs and Favianette Cotte had two hits and two RBI to lead Avon Park to a 10-0 six-inning, mercy-rule win over Hardee on Tuesday night.

"It was a good night for us," said Avon Park coach Wad Jackson. "Amber pitched a great game and we swung the bats real well.

"We did all the right things and only made one error and that's the way we want to play every game."

The Red Devils host Frostproof tonight and then district rival Braden River on Friday night.

"Frostproof isn't a district game, but our girls know most of their players so it's a pretty big game," Jackson said. "Braden River is a tough team and we just need to build on what we've been able to accomplish and go from there."
