The Sebring boys basketball team had the ball in a tie game with 33 seconds to play on Thursday night, but a pivotal turnover and key Kathleen rebound and put-back in the waning seconds was the difference as the Red Devils battled to a 57-53 victory in a Class 4A Regional quarterfinal at Blue Streak gym.
Kathleen, the two-time defending state runner-up, was down seven players (including three starters) due to suspensions stemming from a fight during the 4A-D9 tournament. Shorthanded and arriving in the gym two minutes before the scheduled tip-off, the Devils were led by Lezedrek Williams, who had 19 points and Von Decked Clayton, who had 14.
Sebring, which which hit four of eight free throws down the stretch and were 7-of-16 for the game, was led by Jake Trussell's 12 points and eight points each from JC Howard, Joe Young and Tevin Toney.
