Sebring got off to a good start in the girls Class 2A-District 9 tennis tournament in Wauchula on Monday.
The two-day, eight-team tournament is being played at the Wauchula city tennis courts with the district champion and runner-up advancing to next week's regional competition.
Sebring junior Kelsie Johnson won her No. 1 singles match over Lake Placid's Jessica Landers by a score of 6-1, 6-2, while Blue Streak freshman Kaley Walter won at No. 2 singles over Avon Park freshman Kayla Lockhart, 6-0, 6-3.
Sebring's Shana Bassett won her No. 4 singles match against Sarasota Booker's Andrea Roche, 6-1, 7-5, while Blue Streak Kelsey Tucker was upset at No. 3 singles by Hardee's Shelby Durrance, 1-6, 1-6.
Avon Park senior Angie Carrillo kept her outstanding season going by blasting Palmetto's Nina Hlinka at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Hardee's Amanda Porter knocked off Lake Placid's Tara Henderson at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-6, while DeSoto's Gabi Edelmann eased past Hardee's Clara Durrance at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-1.
Lake Placid's Jalitza Serrano won at No. 3 singles over Avon Park's Heather Bass, 6-0, 7-5
Palmetto's Briana Scott held off Avon Park's Mariah Hodge at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2, while DeSoto's Kayla Muse cruised past Lake Placid's Johneesia Sholtz at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 5 singles, Sarasota Booker's Danielle Dygert held off Avon Park's Danielle French by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The remaining singles and doubles matches were not complete at press time.
