Playing their best golf of the season, the Sebring girls, led by senior Priscilla Adams' 43, knocked Avon Park from the ranks of the unbeaten on Thursday at River Greens golf course.

The Blue Streaks shot a four-person team score of 183 for nine holes, while the Red Devils came in with a 217.

Sebring junior Camiel White continued her steady play with a 45, while freshman Lindsey Lovett shot a 47 and Savanna Fisher rounded out the scoring with a 48.

Avon Park was led by senior Courtney Robinson's 48, while junior Paige Moffat had a 50, Sarah Hunnicutt carded a 56 and Angela Bateman came in with a 63.

The win improved the Blue Streaks to 6-4 on the season, while the loss dropped Avon Park to 7-1.

"Sebring played really well," said Avon Park first-year coach Suzie Gentry. "Our girls were a little nervous and it took us a few holes to settle down.

"I'm very pleased with how we've played this season and we're focused on improving and getting ready for the district tournament next month."

The Red Devils are back on the links on Monday with an away match against Hardee at The Bluffs in Arcadia, while the Blue Streaks host Celebration on Tuesday at Sebring Golf Club.

BOYS GOLF: Sebring Takes 2nd Behind Liles

BARTOW - Junior Blake Liles shot a 2-under-par 34 to pace the Sebring boys golf team to a second-place finish in a quad match at Bartow Country Club on Thursday.

Bartow finished first with a four-person team score of 155 for nine holes, the Blue Streaks tied for second with Lakeland at 157 and Lake Region came in with a 176.

Liles had four birdies in his round to earned medalist honors, while John Vicker Jr. shot a 40, Zach Foster had a 41 and Sean Garner carded a 42 to round out Sebring's scoring.

"The Bartow course was in good shape and we played fairly well," said first-year Blue Streak coach Vince Liles. "We gave a few shots away on the last couple of holes and it cost us.

"This was a good match for us, because the other schools are in our district and it gave us a chance to see how we match up with them."

Sebring is back in action on Tuesday with an away match in Lakeland.

CROSS COUNTRY: Sebring Sweeps Meet

SEBRING - The Sebring cross country teams showed they have plenty of speed to burn by sweeping Thursday's cross country tri-meet against Hardee and Walker Memorial Academy at Highlands Hammock State Park.

The Blue Streak boys won their meet with 24 points, Walker Academy had 46 and Hardee finished with 60.

Sebring's Connor Bauer and Michael Polatty tied for first with a time 18:45, which was a personal best for Polatty.

"Michael ran with Connor and it really helped him," said veteran Blue Streak coach Jeff Shoemaker. "Our times were good as a team, but we certainly have room for improvement."

Sebring won the girls meet with 15 points, Hardee had 41 and Walker Academy did not record a team score.

Maxine Copley led the Blue Streaks - who swept the top five spots - with a time of 21:55, while Heather McIntyre ran a 22:10, Amanda Kennedy had a 24:28, Caitlyn Moulds came in with a 25:54 and Lisa Ontermaa finished in 26:45.

"The girls looked good today," Shoemaker said. "To take the top five spots is great, but I'm really happy that we were able run under twenty seven minutes as a team.

"The girls have been working out and practicing very hard and it's starting to pay off."

Sebring's next meet is next Saturday at Frostproof.
