Clay Davis fired a season-best 35 and Greg Gentry followed with a 38 on Tuesday to lead the Avon Park boys golf team to a rain-soaked six-shot victory over rival Sebring at Pinecrest golf club.
"Clay hit some really good putts," said AP coach Bobby Barben. "He really held it together through the rain delay and put up a real good number."
The Blue Streaks were led by Blake Liles and John Vicker, who each shot 39 on the front nine.
"John's using his body more than his hands," said Sebring coach Vince Liles about Vicker's low round of the young season. "He has a tendency to get a little 'handsy,' but he's playing solid after a 77 over the weekend."
The victory improved the Red Devils to 6-1 on the season.
"We didn't play as well after the rain delay, but we held on," said Barben, who noted his team was just two-over par when the downpour hit. "It was a good match and both teams played very well."
Austin Smith shot a 40 and Evan Danzey carded a 42 to round out AP's scores, while Sebring's Sean Garner finished with a 41 and Zach Foster carded a 42.
The Devils are back in action on Tuesday when they host Hardee. The Sebring boys, meanwhile, travel to Bartow today.
GIRLS GOLF: Sebring 213, Bartow 226
Rain also found the Sebring girls golf team at Highlands Ridge North, but that didn't stop the Lady Streaks from cruising past Bartow, 213-226.
Junior Camiel White led the Streaks with a 51, followed by sophomore Kelsie Allen and freshman Savana Fisher, who each carded 52 on the front nine. Freshman Lindsey Lovett, meanwhile, rounded out Sebring's scoring with a 52.
Medalist honors went to Jake Horne, who led Bartow with a 40.
The Streaks are back in action on Thursday when they face Avon Park at River Greens.
