Playing against some of the top teams in the state, the Sebring boys golf team managed a fifth-place finish in The First Academy Invitational at MetroWest golf course on Saturday.
The Blue Streaks shot a four-person, 18-hole team score of 318 over the demanding and well-manicured MetroWest layout, while Circle Christian won the 10-team event with an incredible score of 17-under par.
"There were some very talented golfers in the tournament and the team score that Circle Christian shot is just remarkable," said first-year Sebring coach Vince Liles. "We want to play against good competition because that prepares us for the district tournament."
Junior Blake Liles led the way with a 75, senior John Vicker Jr. had a 77, and Casey LaPadula and Tyler Sanders each shot an 83 to round out the Blue Streaks scoring.
"I'm pleased with our play," said Liles. "MetroWest was a tough course and the kids managed to keep the ball in play for the most part.
"That was one of the best conditioned courses we've played on and the kids enjoyed playing it."
Circle Christian's Mike Hebert won medalist honors with a 65, which included 10 birdies.
"That's a great round and Hebert is a very talented player," said Coach Liles. "Competing against players that good can only help us down the stretch."
Sebring is back on the links on Tuesday with a match against Avon Park a Pinecrest Golf Club.
