Despite having only six players on the team, the Lake Placid girl's golf squad has plenty of experience.
That's because all six of those girls played on last year's team and have worked hard to improve their games.
"We could have more girls on the team, but these are the girls that have really dedicated themselves and come out to practice on a regular basis," said fourth-year Green Dragon coach Jennifer Miller. "All of these girls played on varsity last year and gained a lot of valuable experience.
"They have been practicing and working on their games and we should be much improved from last year."
Senior Ashleigh Barben is a natural athlete that has played varsity golf for four years and leads the way for the Green Dragons.
"Ashleigh has a good work ethic and is a very focused player," said Miller. "She is solid on the greens and is a team leader."
Junior Ansley Stewart is in her third year of varsity action and is one of the hardest workers on the team.
"Ansley is a tireless worker and is always practicing some part of her game," said the Lake Placid coach. "She has improved her swing and just needs to relax and have fun when she plays."
Weslee Davis is in her third year on varsity and the Green Dragon junior has one of the best tee shots on the squad.
"Weslee hits a mean drive," Miller said. "She enjoys the game very much and has a good time on the course."
Junior Nichele Browning has a quiet confidence about her game and a strong tee shot.
"Nichele doesn't say a whole lot, but she is always thinking when she's on the course," said Miller. "She is dedicated to improving and her hard work is paying off."
Senior Alannah Lopes is in her second year of varsity competition and is an excellent athlete.
"Alannah is a good softball player and we've been working on her swing," said the Green Dragon coach. "She is working on her tee shots, but she has a good short game which saves her lots of shots over the course of a round."
Athletic sophomore Jessica Honkala is back for her second year on varsity and is being counted on to contribute.
"Jessica has a lot of natural athletic ability," said Miller. "She is long off the tee and has a good short game around the greens."
Lake Placid opens the season on Sept. 11 with a match against Avon Park at River Greens golf course.
""We're growing and improving as a team," said Miller. "The girls have been working hard and are fired up for the start of the season."
