The caring and generosity of the dart throwers and golfers in Highlands County is well known. That point was driven home once again in Saturday's annual Toys For Tots golf tournament.
The popular one-day, 18-hole tournament attracted a field of 43 golfers, who competed in a four-person scramble format over the tight and demanding 6,450-yard, par 72 Golf Hammock Country Club layout.
When all the eagles and birdies were added up, the talented foursome of Ryan Thorlton, Joey Desimone, Travis Turner and Bill Turner won the event with a net score of 53.
The tournament is a fundraiser for the local Toys For Tots organization, which provides toys for underprivalidged children during the Christmas holidays.
Placing second in the event was the foursome of James Acevedo, David Gerhart, Tony Gerhart and Daniel Baker with a net score of 54.6.
The 43 golfers enjoyed perfect playing conditions and the Golf Hammock course was in excellent shape for the annual event.
Making sure that underprivaledged children receive some gifts at Christmas is the goal of the Toys For Tots organization, which has been performing this service for a number of years.
