The Highlands County senior softball 55+ league kicked off play on Tuesday at the Highlands County Sports Complex in Sebring. The four-team league draws more than 60 players each season, many of whom play in multiple leagues.
Games are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. and are being played for the first time at the complex.
"They just opened it for us," said John Diaz, the league's vice president and an umpire during opening day. "We're blessed to have such a facility."
Complex manager Rocky Ellingsworth said the league is the perfect use for the field, and that he's happy to see the action between the lines.
"We couldn't have built this without community support," Ellingsworth said. "And these guys have supported the heck out of it."
