Moffat Leaves Golf Hammock Country Club

SEBRING -- Another familiar face is exiting the Heartland golf scene.

Colin Moffat, who has been the head professional at Golf Hammock Country Club for the past four years, has taken a position as the Director of Golf at Indian Lakes Estates Country Club in Polk County.

"This is an opportunity that I couldn't pass up," said Moffat. "I'm kind of sad because I've enjoyed my time at Golf Hammock immensely, because the members are fine people and have always given me great support, but I just feel like the time is right for me to move on.

"Indian Lakes Estates Country Club is a very nice layout, and I was up there last week and met more than 300 people, and I look forward to the challenges that are ahead of me."

Moffat's departure comes two months after Tom McClurg, who was the head pro at Sebring Golf Club for a number of years, left to take a job as Director of Golf at the Chula Vista Golf Resort in Wisconsin.

Replacing Moffat will be Roger Giegerich, who has been the pro shop manager at Golf Hammock for the past four years.

Giegerich, who moved to the Heartland four years ago from Milwaukee, Wis., is looking forward to the opportunity to work closely with the members.

"I love the game of golf and what I do here at Golf Hammock," said Giegerich. "I've been here for four years and know most everyone and I'm looking forward to the future."

Moffat, who was the head pro at Pinecrest Golf Course from 1998 -2002, and also at River Greens Golf Course for a while, thinks the 27 holes at Indian Lakes Estates have great potential.

"I like the 18 hole course because it's an old style layout that plays 6,700 yards from the blue tees and is a good test of golf," said the personable pro. "The other nine holes is an executive course that provides a good facility for practice.

"I want to bring in golf groups and promote the course because it's not a private facility and anyone can play."

Moffat and his daughters Paige, and Lindsey, and wife Cheryl, will continue to live in Highlands County.

"Paige plays on the Avon Park High School girls golf team, Lindsey is in middle school and my wife teaches Science at Avon Park High," he said. "So we'll continue to live in Highlands County. "It's about a half an hour drive for me and I'm just heading North instead of South.

"I've always loved the game of golf and I'm excited about what the future holds for me."
