Mulberry Rallies Past AP
MULBERRY - The Avon Park softball team jumped out to three-run lead over host Mulberry, but fielding errors allowed the Panthers to steal a 4-3 win against the Red Devils on Tuesday.
"We should have done so much better tonight," said AP head coach Mike Cobb. "Our bats went cold after the first inning and we just played flat."
The Red Devils scored all three of its runs in the first inning off a two-run triple by Ashley House and senior catcher Julie Lamb came home on a fielder's choice.
Avon Park managed only two hits in the against Mulberry, who came back in the fourth inning to take the lead for good.
The Red Devils host DeSoto today at 7 p.m.
BASEBALL: Palmetto 5, Sebring 4 (12 innings)
PALMETTO - A see-saw battle between Class 4A-District 10 foes went to extra innings on Tuesday, as the Sebring baseball team dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker on the road to Palmetto.
"It went back and forth all night," Sebring head coach Hoppy Rewis said. "We just couldn't respond in the twelfth."
First baseman Tony Vazquez crushed a two-run homer and Adam Simmons added a solo homer for the Streaks.
Up 4-2 in the seventh, Palmetto stormed back by plating a pair of runs to send the game into extra innings.
The Blue Streaks host DeSoto on Friday. First pitch at Firemen's Field is set for 7 p.m.
GIRLS TENNIS: Lake Placid 6, DeSoto 1
ARCADIA - Jessica Landers and Tara Henderson both overcame first-set losses to rebound for wins, as the Lake Placid girls tennis team earned an impressive 6-1 victory over DeSoto on Tuesday.
Landers defeated Katie Colding 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Henderson beat Hannah Neeley 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 in No. 3 and 4 seed matches, respectively.
"I was really proud of how [Jessica and Tara] responded after dropping their first sets," said LP head coach Jennifer Moore. "All the girls played steady and smart."
Sydney Stewart won over Gabi Edelman 6-1, 6-1, while Shana Teasbeck downed Mary Price in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 in the Green Dragons top two seeded matches, while Nahla AbuAouf slipped past Michelle Lawrence 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles action, Stewart and Reasbeck lost to the team of Edelmann and Price 9-7 with Landers and Henderson drubbing the team of Muse and Neeley 8-1 to defeat the Bulldogs.
Both Green Dragon tennis teams are in action today, with the boys traveling to LaBelle and the girls hosting. First serves are set for 4 p.m.
