SFCC Squads Go 0 For 3

AVON PARK - Johnny Sedlock gave the South Florida Community College baseball team six solid innings, but the Panthers had trouble at the plate on Friday as Lake Sumter CC cruised to a 5-0 victory.

"We are a very inconsistent bunch," said SFCC coach Rick Hitt. "I thought we were managing the game well, but we lack any form of consistent approach at the plate.

"We have some guys who have to grow up."

Hitt's tone was shared by SFCC softball coach Carlos Falla, whose Panthers dropped two road games on Friday, 4-0 and 13-5 to Miami-Dade CC.

"We didn't adjust to their pitchers," said Falla, whose team managed just nine hits over the two games. "We have to quit playing scared. We look like deer in the headlights out there - we just need to go out and play, and deal with the situation at hand."

The Panthers, now 2-9 on the season, hope to improve quickly: They welcome Santa Fe Community College at 1 p.m. today, a team ranked No. 1 in the state.

"They''re tough all the way through," Falla said. "They can pitch and swing the sticks real well."

The Panther baseball team, meanwhile, is now 6-8 on the season. They traveled Clearwater Christian on Saturday for a doubleheader and will take on Pasco-Hernando CC for a 1 p.m. game today.

"We've faced our share of challenges as far as injuries go," Hitt said. "But we'd hoped guys would be a bit further along. We'll keep struggling until we figure it out."
