Yates Tops Seminole Tire
LAKE PLACID - Michelle Yates Insurance moved back into first place in the Lake Placid senior softball league with an 11-5 victory over Seminole Tire during Monday's league play at the Lake June Ball fields.
Moe Pier led the winners at the plate with four hits, including a triple. Doran Quigg, Emery Graves, Eli Rivera and Duke Hensley also contributed two hits each for the win, with Hensley leading the way with a double and a home run.
Three players for the Seminole Tire team - Gary Steeves, Gary Vann and Spider Ross - managed two hits against Yates pitcher Harland Newby.
Play on the other field was close until the last inning, when the Lake Placid Marine team scored 16 runs to claim a 38-22 win over the Central Security. Larry Lane and Darrel Richards were each 6 for 6, while Cal Bready was 5 for 6 and Glenn Wearsch was 4 for 5. John Miller was 5 for 5 and Ed Engler and Victor Rodriquez were each 4 for 5. Hugh Grimaldi, Tom Walsh and Dana Hurlbut each had three hits for Central Security.
The win gave Michelle Yates a half-game lead over idle Schooni's Family Restaurant with records of 6-3 and 5-3, respectively. Lake Placid Marine moved into a third place tie with Central Security at 4-5, while Seminole Tire dropped to 3-6 as the league play neared the half way point of the season. Play continues through March.
