SFCC Falls To Santa Fe

GAINESVILLE - Every winning streak has an end.

The South Florida Community College baseball team saw its five-game winning streak come to a halt with an 8-2 loss to Santa Fe Community College on Saturday.

Freshman left-hander Johnny Sedlock pitched 4 2/3 innings and took the loss for the Panthers.

"Johnny didn't pitch poorly, but he made one mistake with the bases loaded and gave up a grand slam," said SFCC coach Rick Hitt. "His command could have been better because he gave up three walks, which is uncharacteristic of him."

The Panthers banged out five hits, with Austin Gaines collecting three of them.

"Offensively we didn't do a whole lot," said Hitt. "We are still looking for consistency because we played well in Friday's win over St. John's River, but we didn't play so well today."

The loss evened the Panthers record at 5-5 with a game at Central Florida Community College on Sunday.

Results were not available at press time.

"We're pleased to have won five out of our last six games," said Hitt. "But we need to be more consistent and we're working hard to improve."

SCHOOL BASEBALL

AVON PARK - Avon Park's Roberto Colon ripped the first pitch of the game for a home run, but it wasn't enough, as Pasco bounced back to beat the Red Devils 7-4 on Saturday in the First Pitch Classic at Head Field.

Heath Barnes pitched three innings and left-hander Buddy Duke tossed three innings in the loss to the Pirates.

Avon Park is back in action on Tuesday in the Early Bird Tournament against Auburndale with first pitch at 7:30 p.m.
