Despite a struggling economy, the annual Meals On Wheels golf tournament attracted a strong field of players on Saturday at Harder Hall Country Club.
The competitors used a four-person scramble format over 18 holes and the foursome of Blake Liles, Grover Crawford, Vince Liles and Mitch Collins tied for first in the First Flight net division with a score of 55 and won a match of cards.
The talented quartet of Kevin Robinson, Pete McDebitt, Mark Gibson and Kevin Lee also shot a net 55, but finished second on the match of cards.
Kent Boggs, Bob Kallatsa, Jim Pickett and Bob Boleman came in third with a net 56, while Mike London, Dave Lind, Tom Jenkins and Ferland Cribb finished fourth with a 58.
Thomas Trevino, Dick White, Dr. Albert Ruiz and Mario Trevino took fifth with a net 59, while Tom Kent, Don Jewell, Bill Carson and Terry Gross came in sixth with a 65.
Winning the Second Flight net division was the foursome of Dr. Pena, Kim Schlosser, Carlos Gonzales and Dr. Luo with a score of 54, while the team of Mike Sieberg, Ryan Cochran, Ronald Cochran and Donald Cochran placed second with a net 56.
Mike Smith, Ron Smith, Jim Smith and Ethan Smith took third with a score of 58 and Larry Staggs, William Gray, Jack Linnsmeyer and Ted Huff came in fourth with a 59.
David Cox, Jeff Dressel, Mike Murphy and Dennis Murphy claimed fifth with a 60, while Tom Watson, Butch Cassidy, Kurt Wall and Tim Topa finished sixth with a 64.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Blake Liles on hole No. 5, Mike London on No. 9, Jim Pickett on No. 12 and Kent Boggs on No. 16.
Kevin Robinson uncorked a mammoth drive to win the longest drive competition.
