Emmanice McCullors posted a double-double by scoring a team-high 10 points and dishing out 10 assists while grabbing six rebounds to lead the Sebring girls basketball team to a 54-17 victory over Hardee in a Class 4A-District 10 match-up on Tuesday.
"We used our size to our advantage and played really good defensively tonight," said SHS head coach Mike Lee. "I was really impressed with our man defense and our communication was a lot better than it has been."
Senior Hannah Shoop pitched in nine points and pulled down six rebounds and Olivia Bullock scored eight points in the Streaks win.
The Streaks are back in action on Friday when they host district foe Palmetto. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
BOYS SOCCER: McKeel 2, Lake Placid 1
LAKELAND - Lake Placid's Antonio Torres scored in the 60th minute, but the Green Dragon offense was quelled in a 2-1 loss to McKeel Academy in a Class 3A-District 10 showdown on Tuesday.
Goalie Ernesto Jimenez had 10 saves in a losing effort.
"We came out very flat in the first half tonight, which is uncharacteristic of us as a team," LP head coach Josh Virkler said. "But we were able to come out strong in the second half and had plenty of scoring chances, but we just couldn't get the win."
Torres' goal came after a rebound off an LP corner kick came to him, where he dribble into the box and scored on a low left-footed shot.
Lake Placid is off until Dec. 9 when they travel to face district foe Mulberry.
GIRLS SOCCER: Lake Placid 4, McKeel 1
LAKELAND - Yudi Terrones continued her scoring barrage by netting three goals and lifting Lake Placid to a 4-1 win over McKeel Academy in a Class 3A-District 10 match-up on Tuesday.
Terrones has scored an amazing 13 goals in the first four games of the season.
The Green Dragon defense stepped up the intensity by limiting McKeel to just one goal off a corner kick that was kicked in by an LP player into their own goal.
"Our defense really fuels our offense," said LP head coach John Merlo. "We controlled the middle of the field and that has been a key to our success. Everything is going as planned. The girls have really adjusted to a new coach with a new system and I couldn't be happier."
The Dragons are back in action on Friday, when they travel to Frostproof.
BOYS SOCCER: Avon Park 0, Hardee 0
Avon Park managed to accomplish something they hadn't done in three years - not lose.
The Red Devils defense stepped up their intensity and held off a game Hardee squad for a 0-0 tie in a Class 4A-District 10 game
This was AP's first non-loss since 2005.
"I'm really proud of the team and the way they've hung in there this season," said AP head coach Craig Morris. "I changed up our defensive formation to take advantage of our stronger players and it paid off.
"We put up a good fight."
Avon Park looked to have scored in the second half, but the goal was waved off on an offsides call.
Goalie Arnaud Lewis had five saves for the Red Devils, who are back in action Thursday when they host Sarasota Booker in a district showdown.
Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER: Hardee 3, Avon Park 1
Hardee's offense rallied with three straight goals to beat Avon Park 3-1 in a Class 4A-District 10 match on Tuesday.
The Red Devils are back on the field Thursday when they host district foe Sarasota Booker. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
