Team Snyder Wins SHS Classic

Despite wet, windy conditions the talented foursome of John Snyder, Aaron Snyder, Charlie Damron and Kayla Griffin finished first in the Championship Flight in Saturday's 13th annual Sebring High School Golf Classic.

The winning quartet shot a net 56 over the tight and demanding 6,500-yard, par 72 Sebring Golf Club layout.

The one-day, 18-hole tournament, which is the main fundraiser for the Blue Streak boys and girls golf programs, attracted a field of 72 golfers, who competed in a four-person, scramble format.

Placing second in the Championship Flight was the team of Cory Watt, Cody Watt, Warren Watt and Scott Lang with a net 57, while Matt Cornuet, Dave Cornuet, Suzanne Cornuet and Ben Montalto finished third with a net 57 after a match of cards.

The First Flight was won by Curtis Weldy, Mike Crenshaw, Dave Cox and Gary Heintz with a net 61 after a match of cards with the team of Greg Griffin, Pete McDevitt, Bob Swaine and John Payne.
Joe Acevedo, John Danko, Tony Plyley and Jerry Clark came in third place with a net 62.

Ron Spatafore won closest-to-the-pin honors on hole No. 3, while Bob Swaine came closest on hole No. 16.

Swaine also won long drive honors on hole No. 4.

Orange Blossom Pregnancy Tourney

It took a match of cards, but the team of Bob DeWitt, Denver Ferry, Carl Dornham and Adele Dornham finished first with a 61 in the Orange Blossom Pregnancy Care Center golf tournament on Saturday at Highlands Ridge North.

Placing second in the First Flight was the foursome of Pete Coughlin, David Onsted, Don Young and Fred Blake.

The Second Flight was won by Bob Hovery, Randy Gilde and their two partners with a 60, while Bobby Krause, Dick Krause and Ben Krause came in second with a 65.

Ben Krause also had the shot of the day with a hole-in-one on the par 3 sixth hole.

Dave Onstead won closest-to-the-pin honors on hole No. 8, while Charles Schoenfeld was closest on hole No. 16.

Denver Ferry claimed longest drive honors on hole No. 4.
