AVON PARK - It was the Lonnie Pryor show.
The Okeechobee Brahman senior tailback did everything except sell popcorn, scoring four touchdowns and rushing for 120 yards in only two quarters of play in the 48-0 rout of the Avon Park Red Devils at Joe Franza Stadium on Friday.
Avon Park looked lost on both sides of the ball, losing fumble after fumble and yielding just 25 yards of total offense at halftime. The Red Devils had very little to feel good about, as it seemed like Okeechobee knew what play they were running before Avon Park did.
Okeechobee exacted its own brand of revenge, after Avon Park had defeated the Brahmans the past two seasons, catching the Red Devils off guard by recovering the onside kick to open the game and scoring on a 25-yard pass by senior Garrett Madrigal to Nate Pollard for the first score of the game.
After an Avon Park interception, Pryor scored his first touchdown of the game on a 36-yard run that put Okeechobee up 14-0 just four minutes into the game.
The Red Devils never got on track offensively, gaining just 52 yards of total offense in the game -- 27 of those yards coming against the third string Okeechobee defense.
To add insult to injury, Avon Park junior tailback Virgil Cooper, who was a bright spot for the Red Devils with 44 yards rushing, was carried off the field due to an injury with four minutes left to play.
Avon Park has a bye week and will host the Hardee Wildcats on September 21 at 7:30 p.m.
