Blue Streaks Shine At Swimming Regionals

ST. PETERSBURG - Sebring showed it's a force to be reckoned with during the preliminary section of Saturday's Class 2A-Region 3 swimming meet at the Northshore Pool.

Junior Megan Wolfe qualified for the finals in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25:17.

Wolfe combined with Paige Giller, Leeza Freeland and Katie Bullard to break the school record in the 200 medley relay with a 2:00.46.

Freeland qualified for finals in the 100 butterfly with a 1:04.56 and teamed with Bullard, Wolfe and Katie Havery to break the school record in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:45.38.

The same talented quartet also qualified for the finals in the 400 freestyle relays with a 4:03.91.

Blue Streak senior Shaanan Spiegel competed in the diving event and will have to wait to see if he qualified after other regional competitions are completed.

Spiegel advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100 backstroke with a 1:02.23, and Bryan Kirsch advanced to the finals in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.11.

Jason Parsons, Tom Quigg, Matthew Vickers and Spiegel qualified in the 400 freestyle relay with a 3:52.39.

Class 1A-Region 2

ORLANDO - Avon Park's Miguel Ortiz led the way for the contingent of Avon Park and Lake Placid athletes at Saturday's Class 1A-Region 2 swimming and diving meet at Lake Highland Prep.
Ortiz compiled a score of 335.80 in 11 dives to finish third in Saturday morning's preliminaries.

Red Devil Heather Barnes came in seventh with a score of 289.00 in the girls competition.
Ortiz and Barnes competed in the diving finals late Saturday afternoon and results were not available at press time.

Lake Placid's Michael Wilkes fared well in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.80, and the Green Dragon swimmer qualified for the 100 freestyle finals with a time of 49.27.

The Lake Placid boys 200-yard freestyle relay quartet qualified for the finals with a sixth-place finish in 1:37.12.
