BARTOW - Sophomore tailback Tyre Brooks rushed for 127 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown to lead the Bartow Yellow Jackets to a dominating 36-0 home win over the Avon Park Red Devils at Yellow Jacket Field on Friday.

The Class 3A Yellow Jackets improved to 4-4 on the season, while Avon Park dropped to 1-7 on the season.

Quarterback Christian Clay ran for two scores - a two and six-yard keepers at the goal line and connected with junior receiver Malcolm Johnson on a 31-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to give Bartow a 23-0 lead at the half.

Avon Park, who only had 61 yards of total offense in the first half, put together an impressive 16-play, 51-yard drive down to the Bartow 14-yard line, but quarterback Albert Moses' pass was tipped at the goal line and intercepted.

Red Devil tailback Virgil Cooper led the way for Avon Park, rushing for 46 yards on 17 carries, who get ready to face Class 3A-District 12 rival DeSoto next week for a chance at the playoffs.
