Taking advantage of perfect weather and ideal scoring conditions, the 111 players in Saturday's Lake Placid High School Baseball Fundraiser golf scramble made their share of birdies.

The one-day, 18-hole, scramble event attracted a strong field, and the team of Randy Proctor, Adam Proctor, Ryan Magnuson and Vince Liles won the First Flight with an impressive 14-under-par 58.
The foursome of Scott Baker, Billy Bonecutter, Larry Bush and Tony Mendez placed second with a 59, after a match of cards with the team of Mike Chapman, Ron Chapman, Harry Gregor and Mike Starr.
The Second Flight was won by David Bertram, Bruce Bush, Verlon Carrell and Jason Test with an 8-under 64, after a match of cards with Rick Greene, David Greene, Kerry Thompson and Kyle Thompson.

Sean Barley, Mike Moore, Jason Rogers and Tripp Waters finished third with a 65.

Third Flight winners were the foursome of Floyd Beers, Wanda Beers, Gene Miller and Rose Hunter with a 68.

Placing second was Bill Lockwood, Barb Lockwood, Darrell Horney and Sue Mackey with a 69, while Tom Nemeth, Todd Schweitzer, Tracy Schweitzer and Deno Cram finished third with a 70.

The Fourth Flight was won by David Carnahan, Carl Smith, Hilton Wells and Tommy Lighthouse with a 72.

Don George, Frank Fisher, Jay Lundy and Bruce Miseno placed second with a 73, after a match of cards with Jerry Morrison, Bob Mysliwy, Bruce Stayer and Sparky.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Randy Proctor on hole No. 2, Quinton Birge on No. 6, Jason Rogers on No. 11, Verlon Carrell on No. 13 and Adam Proctor on No. 18.

Longest drive winners were Mike Chapman on hole No. 4 and John Danko on No. 10.

"I can't thank the people in Highlands County enough for their support of this tournament," said Lake Placid High School baseball coach Dan Coomes. "This is the most people we've ever had for the event, and it was a beautiful day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

"This is the main fundraiser for our baseball team and we really appreciate all the support."
