SEBRING -- Fun, frivolity and playing golf for a good cause was the theme for Saturday's South Florida Community College Nurses Scholarship Fund golf tournament.
The fifth annual event, which continues to grow in popularity, attracted a field of 120 golfers, who competed in a four-person best ball format over 18 holes on the Turtle Run course at Sun 'N Lake Country Club.
Winning the tournament, was the talented foursome of Ed Westfield, Paul Smith, Timmy Junior and Jeff Lahr with a score of 11-under-par 61.
Placing second was the team of Chuck Toth, David Scott, Dave Beilou and Dave Henline with an 8-under 64.
The foursome of Buck Anderson, Mark Telfer, John Beatrice and Clark George finished third with a 67.
Lars Bylund, well-known for his length off the tee, won the long-drive contest on the ninth hole.
All of the proceeds from the tournament goes to the South Florida Community College Foundation, which funds the nursing scholarships.
"We appreciate the participation and support from the community," said tournament organizer Bob Burke. "This is a worthy cause and the tournament continues to grow."
With the lack of nurses nationwide, the nursing program at SFCC continues to provide a vital source of qualified nurses on a yearly basis.
The tournament raised more than $4,500 which will go to the Nurses Scholarship Fund.
