Girls Soccer: Palmetto Defeats Sebring 6-0

»  Comments | Post a Comment

PALMETTO - The Sebring Blue Streaks girls soccer team played a spirited first half against the defending Class 4A-District 10 champion Palmetto Tigers on Tuesday.

Holding the Tigers to a single goal before the half, the Blue Streaks were feeling pretty good about their play in hostile territory, but a barrage of goals in the second half lifted Palmetto to a 6-0 win over Sebring.

Blue Streak coach Steve Ashley was proud of his kids play, but knows where the improvement needs to come from.

"Our defense really has to step up," he said. "I thought we did good against Palmetto in the first half. We allowed nothing on corner kicks, but we need to protect the middle of the field."

After scoring their second goal, the Tigers scored on a penalty kick that gave them a 3-0 lead.
That took the wind out of the Blue Streak sails and was the turning point in the match.

Sebring has little time to recover, as it hosts archrival Avon Park tonight at Firemen's Field at 7:30 p.m.
