Braden River Catches Sebring Looking Back

After opening its preseason and regular season with 12 straight game victories and a perfect match record, the Sebring volleyball team has recently found out what it's like on the other end of the broom.

The Streaks fell 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 to Braden River on Thursday, two days after suffering a tough three-set spanking by perennial district power DeSoto.

Sebring coach Venessa Sinness said the hangover from the tough loss to the Bulldogs was definitely evident against the Pirates.

"There was a lack of confidence on our part, and we didn't have consistent play or communication," Sinness said. "The Pirates were very consistent, but there was definitely some carry-over from DeSoto."

Britt Augustine had 12 assists to lead the Streaks (2-2), while Molly Blackman had four kills to set the offensive pace. Anna West and Carly Freeland added three kills each, and Blackman and West had three blocks a piece.

"We were six players out there instead of one team," Sinness said. "And it was a domino effect. Everyone hesitated, we weren't moving as one on the court, and that led to making mistakes."

The Streaks have the weekend to mend their wounds before hosting district competitor Booker at home on Tuesday.

"We did a lot of things we normally don't do," Sinness said. "Broken plays hurt us and we didn't keep the ball in play.

"We just need to build our confidence back up."
