More than 50 people got up early on Saturday morning to run for a very worthy cause in the Joe Jenkins 5k Time Prediction Run/Walk at Highlands Hammock State Park.

The third annual event is a fundraiser for Jenkins, who suffers from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Jenkins and his family were on hand to congratulate each participant as they crossed the finish line.

The object of the race wasn't to run or walk the fastest, but to be as close as possible to your predicted time without the benefit of a watch.

"It's a fun event that gets people out exercising for a very worthy cause," said race organizer Chet Brojek. "Joe is an outstanding person and I'm just happy to be able to help promote this event which helps Joe and his wonderful family as he battles this terrible disease."

Dr. Elena Febre was the closest to her predicted time to win the overall trophy.

Dr. Febre ran a 35.59 after she predicted a time of 36:00 over the 5k course.

Frank Wenger received a medal after finishing in 56:08 after predicting a time of 56:00.

Mike Martina came in third with a difference of 11 seconds, Mike Monske claimed fourth with a mark just 12 seconds off his prediction and Leigh Beumel came in fifth, just 17 seconds off her time.
