Investigators continue to look into the case of three cars that were reported missing from the Alan Jay Chevrolet Buick GMC dealership's lot Thursday morning.
Highlands County Sheriff's Lt. Darin Hood said his office received a call at 2:51 a.m. saying that they saw an abandoned 2011 Chevrolet Camaro near the dealership and adjacent to U.S. 27.
There was evidence of forced entry on the car, according to Hood, who would not give any more specifics.
Later Thursday morning, Alan Jay management conducted an inventory of the lot and found that the Camaro was from their dealership, and that two other vehicles were discovered to be missing, according to Hood.
Additionally, a second Chevy Camaro was found damaged, according to Hood. The thieves reportedly also tried to take a 2011 Cadillac CTS as well, which was also found with attempted forced entry.
Calls to both the Alan Jay lot and the Automotive Network seeking comment were not returned before press time Thursday.
No suspects have been arrested, and the make and model of the two other missing vehicles were not being released, according to Hood.
"There are active leads that we are following up, but we're not releasing them at this time," he said.
