"Come on, Raleigh," my computer yells at me, "you know better than to try to get into politics again. You know full well that anything you write is going to make many readers, probably at least half, angry enough to write letters to the editor reproaching whatever your uninformed mind might have to say."
"Yes," I think, "but even now I do not know exactly how I am going to approach this very topical subject. I have to say something in order to get things straight in my own mind."
Important decisions
I truly believe that this election is just as important as the 2012 election will be. Who we elect now will either make or break the political scene as we know it today. The two party system seems to be falling apart and our nation is in danger of collapse with the warring between the Democrats and Republicans not being able to agree on the path we need to follow to avoid financial failure.
Americans have become spoiled into wanting everything right now, doing without is not acceptable. We are borrowing money that will never, not in our lifetimes, be paid back to those countries who are financing our deficit to the point that we cannot even pay the interest on the loans, let alone pay any of the principal. Yet still, we and our leaders in Congress and the Senate continue to ignore the necessity of operating within a balanced budget as a nation.
These leaders spend millions getting elected, an amount that they can never earn back in the elected position because they use "OPM," (Other People's Money) to get elected. Their whole purpose, although hidden or not admitted to, is to get the benefits of the office and get good retirement income for life, after serving a few years regardless of their contributions to the nation. They will follow their political party's rules to the letter or else not get the support from their OPM.
Backbone needed
Florida and the United States need strong leaders who are willing to force us to give up some of our comforts and luxuries that the state and nation are financing. Florida's infrastructure of highways, schooling, water supplies, growth of municipalities and hundreds of other very expensive entities are going to have to be dealt with and still stay within a budget that recognizes the income of the state.
There has blossomed as of late the Tea Party. Groups of Americans who are unhappy with the way the government is running things. So named after the unhappy founders of our nation who threw shipments of tea into the river rather than pay taxes without representation.
Revelation vs. Revolution
The American Revolution was the political upheaval during the last half of the 18th century in which 13 colonies in North America joined together to break free from the British Empire, combining to become the United States of America.
None of us want another Revolutionary War. The overthrow of our government should not even be considered. What is needed are representatives who are strong enough to stop the unnecessary spending on pork additives that are attached to good legislation.
Too many of our representatives, eager to please their constituents, vie to get money sent to their area for projects that benefit very few, mostly the rich who want to get richer.
What revelations can the Tea Party show for better government?
