The annual Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce's Taste of the Race in downtown Sebring on Thursday featured a variety food, plenty of vintage and historic race cars and a baseball team firing fastballs to raise money for the March of Dimes.
As race fans lunched on tacos, pulled pork, barbecued ribs, pizza and more, they got a close look at race cars from the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association.
With attorney Jim McCollum volunteering to sit in the dunk tank to raise money for the March of Dimes, Dr. Tony Chen donated $100 for the South Florida Community College baseball team to pitch in with their strong arms.
Did you miss practice or forget to eat your Wheaties? McCollum said to taunt the baseball players who hit their mark a number of times, sending the lawyer into the chilly water.
Probably about $700 or $800 has been raised for the March of Dimes effort for healthy babies, McCollum said.
It's especially important to him, McCollum said, because three people in his office have had or are having premature baby issues.
At 1:30 p.m. the spectators cleared the Circle as the drivers fired up their race cars for a spirited exit from downtown.
