Irish eyes will smile starting at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) when Sebring Village residents celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a parade followed by Irish singing, food, fun and an evening dance.
Sebring Village is located on the south side of Schumacher Road, west of the Sebring Walmart.
Parade marshal Tom Pratt will dress up as St. Patrick and lead the line of revelers with about 30 golf carts, an antique car or two, bicyclists, and walkers that assemble a half-hour earlier at the south side of the clubhouse.
The annual parade, in its fifth year, will circle the community and return. In past parades the participants have decorated themselves and their vehicles with their favorite Irish regalia.
Participants will share coffee and doughnuts provided by the community association.
"Then, we have a keyboard and we go into the clubhouse and sing Irish songs," said Pratt. "We make a day out of it."
Last year they had about 26 carts, and it just keeps growing, he said.
About 200 residents will enjoy a sold-out corned beef and cabbage meal before the dance begins.
There really aren't too many St. Patrick's Day parades held in Highlands County, Pratt agreed.
"I'm from Ohio and in Columbus they really blow it up," said Pratt.
