The West Sebring Volunteer Fire Rescue has added a new utility vehicle (OHV or Off Highway Vehicle) into its fleet.
The department received assistance from Fire Services Director Tim Eures as well as the county Road and Bridge mechanic, "Bubba" Benton, in completing this project.
In early January, the department took delivery of the 2010 Polaris 6x6 and a skid unit that is equipped with a 75-gallon water tank, foam tank, fire pump and back board station from Kimtech.
"This apparatus will improve our overall capabilities by allowing us to reach areas that were previously inaccessible by our fleet, allowing us to rescue patients and fight fires where we could not get to before," said Chief Scott Mann.
Utility 9 will be located at Station 9 for now and then the new fire station, Station 10, when it's completed on Hammock Road in the fall.
West Sebring Volunteer Fire Rescues' main station is located at 2300 Longview Court in Sebring.
It's a 100-percent volunteer fire department with 31 active firefighters with Firefighter I or higher state certification. West Sebring firefighters protect more 36,400 residents in the West Sebring Fire Department Special Benefit District.
The volunteers are available 24/7 and responded to over 770 calls in 2009 with over 3,150 responses from the volunteers.
