No more CRAs

How much longer does the city of Avon Park have to put up with the Community Redevelopment Agencies? Tax dollars are decreasing at both the city and county levels, and given that they're the source of funding for the CRA, it is time for them to be disbanded.
The CRAs have strayed from their original mission, which was to "remove slum and blight."
Now, their main concerns center around Oktoberfest, the Avon Park Christmas parade, a community theater, the Martin Luther King Jr. parade and Fourth of July activities.
They've also shelled out $44,000 of taxpayers' money to pay rent for the Economic Development Commission to open up an incubator in a location that was designed for the same use in the private sector. Such a business in this location has yet to succeed.
As a multiple business owner and homeowner inside the district, I want it to stop. I believe the CRA and the city council has proven by their choices that they can survive without these funds.
I propose we do away with the CRAs, lower the mileage and return the money to the people who are paying for these ridiculous and worthless expenditures.
I am tired of my tax dollars being a "slush fund" for our city and elected officials.
I would also like to encourage citizens to attend CRA meetings. They begin one hour before the regular monthly council meetings and surprise, it is the city council you will see sitting as the CRA.
