After receiving several calls from local Haitians grieving the loss of family members in Haiti, Ingrid Syllar has organized a support group.
"They were very distraught over the phone...they were crying and telling me that homes had collapsed on their families," Syllar said.
Her support initiative provides free emotional support and resources for Haitians. The group also aims to provide information on fraud prevention on temporary protection status, interpretation and referrals to other social services.
"Haiti is in trouble but what about those people here? What can we do for them?" Syllar asked.
Syllar is certified in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
She is asking the community to get involved by offering their social services to local Haitians. They also need donated office space for an hour and a half on Saturdays to hold the meetings.
