To read some of the letters you would think the sky was falling. Too many repeat ridiculous claims right off the Internet. They claim that the government is taking over and taking away our freedoms, but these same writers didn't say a word when the Patriot Act was rammed down our throats.
Letters complain about the government reforming health care but say nothing about the corporation bean counters controlling it and choosing profits over people's lives. Some are so misinformed that they tell us they don't want government running Medicare. Surprise!
Paragraphs cackle about government spending but under "their people" the government debt limit was raised in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006... a 92 percent increase! Not a peep from the Chicken Little's then. They claim it's about taxes but they said nothing when "we" had to pay for the tax cut for the wealthiest. Other letters are so ridiculous they only reflect badly on the authors.
Have they forgotten what it was like just one year ago? After eight years of their brand of conservatism, almost all major financial institutions were near collapse. The stock market was down over 50 percent. The big three U.S. auto companies were near bankruptcy. The housing market was in the tank. The jobless rate was going through the roof with layoffs increasing daily. The war on terror was faltering. Over 80 percent of the U.S. said we were on the wrong course. Things were really a mess - to put it mildly.
Now a year later we have financial stability in the banking system and some have repaid us. The U.S. taxpayers made a 29 percent profit in one case. The stock market is climbing almost daily. My last 401k quarterly statement was up over 40 percent! The U.S. auto industry is back in motion with GM even reopening some plant. The jobless rate is leveling off and hiring has started again. Housing prices have leveled off and the war on terror has been increased. We are finally heading in a positive direction.
So do you listen to the negative Chicken Little's and elect their negative people? In most cases these are the same good old boys that were in control before and the same failed policies of the past? I say ignore them and continue to move forward and give Obama and the Democrats a chance to continue the progress they are making.
