Caesar must obey God

At the time of this writing, Congress is busy merging the Obamacare bills drafted by the U.S. House and Senate. Neither version seems acceptable to the majority of the U.S. population but the ruling party in Congress is frantic to force into legislation into an omnibus health care program.

Many believe the motive for this manic, obsessive movement is the desire to give President Obama the semblance of a great political victory and fulfillment of a campaign promise, in time for his first State of the Union speech. A bold faced political maneuver without sufficient concern for the public good.

The pro-life community is naturally concerned for the culture of life issues in the final bill, e.g. federal funding of abortion, euthanasia, the right of conscience for health workers, etc. The manner in which the Senate passed their version of the bill was disgraceful, dishonorable and full of blatant bribes. Some senators have no shame, especially those who pretended to be pro-life but sold out for the moral equivalent of 30 pieces of silver.

The final Obamacare legislation is probably going to look pretty awful, especially from the viewpoint of the innocent unborn babies. When Jesus was asked whether taxes should be paid to Caesar, He asked whose image was on the coin. "Caesar" was the answer, the Lord then said, "Give to Caesar what is due to Caesar and to God what is due to God" (Matthew 22:21.) The implication is that what belongs to God includes Caesar (Congress.) Not only do individuals have a duty to obey God, but so do governments.

What form the final health care reform bill will take is known only to God, at this moment. It is not likely to favor the culture of life. Keep the faith; support pro-life legislators, which mean you, should know who they are and who they are not.
