This is in response to Bill Ross's recent trashing of Mr. Mixon, who wrote a very measured and well thought out letter to the editor last week.
Mr. Ross, you have obviously chosen to bury your head in the sand and ignore the past. To those of us who truly are students of history, the parallels between Germany in 1933 and the U.S. today are as clear as they are frightening.
Like Obama, Hitler also promised "hope and change" to a desperate country still reeling from defeat in World War I. He, too, was brought to power under dubious circumstances (like ACORN) and began to recklessly spend money the country didn't have (sound familiar?).
One of the first freedoms Hitler took away from his countrymen was the right to bear arms, just like Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder is trying so diligently to do, despite Obama's campaign rhetoric to the contrary. Free speech and the right to assemble were next, which is ominously similar to Obama's attempt to silence his self-proclaimed "enemies" at Fox News.
Hitler surrounded himself with SA, SS and Gestapo appointees who answered only to him and who were responsible for many of the Third Reich's mind-numbing and ultimately destructive policies. Likewise, Obama has appointed 27 "czars" who report only to him without congressional approval and who operate behind the scenes and under the radar to enact new policies which will drastically affect and control Americans' lives. Hitler nationalized everything he could get by with, including banks, manufacturing and as "Father of the Volkswagen, the auto industry (sound familiar?).
The comparisons are almost endless and, unless stopped, will lead to the same result. History is an invaluable teacher to those who are smart enough to learn from her. Woe be unto those who are stupid or blind enough to ignore her. God help us all.
