The final tally of applicants for Avon Park's city manager position reached 59, with eight locals, including Avon Park Police Department's Cmdr. Michael Rowan.
In the stack of applications received were 30 in-state applicants and 29 out-of-state applicants, both with varying degrees of experience.
The local eight who've applied include; several business owners, a receptionist, teacher, sales person, substance abuse counselor, legal assistant and police department commander of operations.
The position opened in November when former city manager Sarah Adelt resigned. Since then, it has attracted applicants from as far as New York, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Applicants' resumes have been sent to Rough Riders, a non-profit organization that provides consulting services to local municipalities. The organization will select the top 30 and top 10 applicants for the city council to review by the end of January.
The position requires experience in city management and public administration and has a starting annual salary of $68,500.
