Holiday traffic enforcement netted hundreds of citations, warnings and arrests.
From Dec. 16 through Jan. 3, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office deputies issued 199 citations and 110 warnings, including 36 for speeding, eight for seat belt violations - six adults and two children - and three for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), according to Sharon Burch, law enforcement analyst.
Linda LaPointe is the records clerk for the Avon Park Police Department.
For the same time period, her department issued 30 citations in all, including six for excessive speed, two for seat belt violations and arrested one DUI, said LaPointe.
The Sebring Police Department records department reported a total of 44 citations issued during the same time frame, including 13 speeding tickets, one safety belt ticket and hauled in four DUI suspects.
In Lake Placid, police issued a total of 10 citations, one seat belt violation and one DUI arrest.
The Florida Highway Patrol's Troop F covers Highlands, Hardee, DeSoto, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Glades, Lee, Hendry and Collier counties.
There were 4,709 citations issued issued for Troop F: 1,510 speeding citations, 375 seat belt citations, 91 DUI arrests and 21 drug arrests.
Many drivers were given a break. Troop F issued 2,966 warnings for speeding and other and faulty equipment. Statewide the troopers gave out 18,888 warnings.
