In reference to "Hospice house ground-breaking ceremony set," Highlands Today, Jan. 2; Good Shepherd Hospice is to be congratulated for planning the construction of a hospice house in Highlands County. It will be a welcomed addition to local health care services.
However, the Jan. 2 newspaper story may have left the impression that in-patient hospice care is currently unavailable in the area. Hope Hospice has provided in-patient care in Highlands County since July 2009.
Like Good Shepherd, Hope Hospice recognized the need for an in-patient hospice program, easily accessible to the local community and only a short drive away.
An in-patient program became a priority when Hope first began serving Highlands County in 2006 and we found a great partner and friend to collaborate with us: Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Hope Hospice's local in-patient program is a gift of time. Families in Highlands County and the surrounding area no longer have to drive great distances to in-patient hospice facilities, which mean they have more precious time with their loved one.
Hope Hospice is pleased to provide in-patient hospice are for Highlands County and the surrounding area and we welcome the addition of the Good Shepherd hospice house.
