I am writing in reference to the front page article in Dec 17, edition "Mean Dog Blues."
Is it just me or our others getting sick and tired of having the vicious dog bologna about Pit bulls and Rottweilers?
Come on Darryl, you know dogs, you know animals. Why is it front page news when a dog snatches another dog up and sadly, regrettably kills it? Is it wrong? Yes for us, but you stated in the article that what people do is put human feelings into their dogs and you are right. A dog is a dog; it goes by dog rules, not human.
Yet, you say a dog is vicious because it kills another dog (animal,) that is because it is a dog; there is no malaise of thought, it is doing what dogs have done for eons. I will agree that the dogs should be confined, not running loose and the owners should pay some sort of restitution to the poor person whose dog was killed, but to deem the dog vicious is doing exactly what you charge others as doing, putting human feelings into the dog.
I am so tired of hearing about how vicious our Rottweilers are, the latest being the killing of a toddler. If you read the article it was a mixed breed Rottweiler-Lab and what is heartbreaking to me is the loss of the child when all it takes is responsible dog ownership. Anyone can take food out of my dogs' food dish, out of their mouths, because I socialized them a lot as youngsters and I made taking food away a game where they got something better so they think "have it I just get a better treat." It is so heart-wrenching when a life is lost, period; but please don't deem a dog vicious for doing what they have always done.
