Two Avon Park police officers were injured after being involved in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night while on their way to work.
Sgt. Jacob Andrew Bratten, 35, and Officer Lawrence Daniel Schneider, 41, who both live in Winter Haven, were traveling to work when Bratten's 2005 Jeep Wrangler collided with a 1990 Mazda Miata, driven by Bernice Nacrelli, 59, of Eagle Lake, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Bratten was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery because of injuries he suffered after being ejected from the vehicle, the PCSO said. He remains in critical condition.
Schneider, who was the passenger in the Jeep, was taken by ambulance to Winter Haven Hospital. The PCSO said he was treated for a broken collar bone and released.
Nacrelli was also taken to Winter Haven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She is in stable condition, according to the PCSO.
Polk County deputies are still investigating and no charges will be filed until the completion of that investigation.
