There apparently is interest in Lake Placid in keeping the Depot Museum going.
During a meeting of the Lake Placid Historical Society on Sunday, Betty Ray Roberts reported that 16 people had indicated they would be willing to help after the board of directors expressed its concern about the future of the museum.
Roberts, the organization's president, read a statement about the purpose of Sunday's meeting that said the present board has "run out of steam and we feel that a new slate of officers and directors will have new and fresh ideas ..."
The statement went on to say "Some of us have been working since the Society was chartered back in 1982 and we are tired and worn out."
A president, vice president, recording secretary, treasurer, corresponding secretary, treasurer, museum director and four directors will be needed. They will need to be able to serve for two years.
The museum also needs volunteers to staff it during operating hours especially on weekends.
The board will meet March 4 to discuss those who want to be officers. A meeting with those who are interested in serving is scheduled for March 11.
Roberts was "very encouraged" after the meeting. She added that she has had some good input.
"I don't have to go to Plan B," Roberts said.
Plan B would have involved considering the sale of the property to a non-profit organization if not enough people had been willing to accept an office or a director and the disposal of the artifacts.
Those who are interested in helping or want more information may contact Roberts at 465-2266.
