A Sebring man was released from jail Thursday on a $1,000 bond after his arrest on a warrant alleging he severely beat a woman's cat.
Jason Walter Corley, 33, of 419 Grapefruit Ave., was charged with causing cruel death, pain or suffering to an animal, a third-degree felony.
The incident reportedly happened Aug. 23. Emergency personnel treated Corley for injuries he suffered after being bitten by the cat, according to the arrest report.
The cat's owner said she saw Corley choke her cat, Angel, and pull its ears before it bit him. She also alleged that the suspect constantly abuses the animal, the report stated.
Sebring Police Officer Matt Cloud reportedly noticed the cat was missing fur from its coat and seemed to have some kind of "recent trauma" to its left jaw.
"Corley advised he seldom hits the cat, and very rarely throws the cat," the report stated.
The suspect also reportedly told police he suffered from bipolar disorder and epilepsy.
Highlands County Animal Control noted during an exam that, "the injuries to the animal were consistent with a human having the animal, and been excessively violent with it."
