The United States is taking the fight to the Taliban and it's paying off in big ways. It just shows us once again that if we're in a war, then let's get after it and then get out.
In the last week or so, at least three Taliban leaders have been captured. Their top leader was captured a couple of weeks ago and it was reported Wednesday that two more have been nabbed by U.S., Afghan and Pakistani forces. Sounds like he's talking.
In the Taliban hotbed of Marja, many Taliban have been killed or ran away. Some insurgent fighters are trapped and continue to fight to the death. U.S. forces are definitely in harm's way but are performing superbly, as expected. They continue to battle snipers and watch out for traps and IEDs.
It's good to finally see our military being unleashed to go after the bad guys. We've learned time and again that these Taliban, insurgents and Al Qaida are no match for our military men and women. And one thing we know, they won't go away so we have no choice but to fight them, capture them or kill them. They won't pack it up and go home.
Another big change this time is that the Pakistani military and intelligence finally figured out that their protection of Taliban leaders is counterproductive to their country. They have sided with the Taliban in recent history, and it became clear they were not doing much to help us get them - until now.
When Taliban started controlling entire regions of Pakistan it became clear they created a monster. Now they are helping us locate the leaders and even find hidden IEDs. Locals living in these remote villages, who aren't afraid that their families will be executed for helping the U.S. and our allies, are helping out.
We hope this positive news continues. We want to stabilize the area as quickly as possible and then get out of there. It's time for our men and women to come home.
