Stardusters to play at dance club

SEBRING - The Highlands Social Dance Club hosts ballroom dancing tonight from 7 - 9:30 at the Sebring Lions Club on Sebring Parkway.

Music will be provided by The Stardusters.

Free dance lessons will be available from 6:30 - 7 p.m.

All club dances are open to the public. Appropriate dress is required.

Admission is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

Free movies to be shown at local libraries

SEBRING - Free movies will be shown Feb. 20 at the public libraries in Highlands County. They start at 2 p.m.

The schedule is "Damn Yankees" at Avon Park, 100 N. Museum Ave.; "John Q" at Lake Placid, 205 W. Interlake Blvd. and "Seabiscuit" at Sebring, 319 W. Center Ave.

SUNDAY

Community drum circle scheduled at park

SEBRING - The Primal Connection Community Drum Circle will be held from 3 - 5 p.m. Feb. 21 at Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring.

The normal park entrance fee applies. Primal Connection members can get in free by wearing their Primal T-shirt or showing their card.

Some percussion instruments will be available for the public to use.

Fire department slates benefit barbecue

LAKE PLACID - The Placid Lakes Volunteer Fire Department fundraising barbecue, from noon until 4 p.m. on Feb. 21, at the Placid Lakes Town Hall, located at 2010 Placid Lakes Blvd.

This is the 26th year for the firemen's barbecue, featuring sliced beef or pork on a bun, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad. Drinks and desserts are also provided.

Tim Rippey will be providing the entertainment.

Tickets for the meals are $9 and entertainment is free. Kids' meals that include hot dogs are also available for $4. A bounce house will be set up for the kids to enjoy.

Tickets are available in advance from the firemen and at Home and Office Essentials, located at 204 S. Main Ave. They are also available on the day of the barbecue.
