Police say a 17-year-old pulled out a revolver while at the Avon Park Recreation Center on Feb. 5 and hit another teen in the chest with the weapon.
The juvenile was served warrants Tuesday charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor counts of improper exhibition of a firearm or dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor.
The suspect displayed the revolver "in a threatening manner" while inside the rec center, which caused a "well-founded fear and chaos within," according to the arrest report.
After hitting the other 17-year-old with the gun, he reportedly left the center and ran in the direction of the Boys and Girls Club. A search was conducted, but the juvenile was not found.
A witness was shown a photo lineup of six individuals with similar builds and features and was able to identify the suspect "without hesitation," the report stated.
The victim told police he did not wish to pursue charges, but his mother said she did.
Avon Park Police Officer Kevin Megno was the reporting officer, while Officer Vance Pope made the arrest.
