Being somewhat familiar with Habitat for Humanity and their reputation of excellence in our community, I was compelled to write after reading the article on Feb. 10 regarding their current director's resignation.
I am appalled that the board of directors approved Mr. Jacobson's salary and then were content with him simply overseeing the building of "15 to 20 wheelchair ramps and six to eight new homes." Let's not forget the 12 to 13 home refurbishment projects that he was also a part of.
To receive an $80,000 salary and this is the sum total of what he has to show for it, should put the 60 families that have completed the requirements for homeownership into an uproar. These are terribly unimpressive numbers coming from a man who has such a "level of experience" as quoted on the front page of this very newspaper.
To this inexperienced woman it sounds like Mr. Jacobson came here blowing a lot of hot air. He accepted a large salary and then when he couldn't produce the expected results took his leave. He also left 300 Highlands County families wondering where their dreams of homeownership had gone to as well.
